CWS Mining Services was founded in 2014. Originally, the thought process was to utilize Mr. Stewart’s diverse experience, having worked for both mining contracting companies as well as Junior to Mid-Tier mining companies, by sitting on a Board of Directors as an Independent Director. Many Boards we have seen in the mining space tend to have financial and geological focused Directors but seem to ignore the need for an experienced, practical mining operations person.
As time has progressed, Chris has seen the significant positive impact of providing strong, focused leadership to mining companies. It seems that many companies have forgotten or just overlook the fact that their PEOPLE are one of the most important assets they have. If you are not investing in the development of your people, you are doing yourself and your shareholders a disservice.
Safety, cost control, productivity, morale, all of these are under the control of your front line supervisors and your site management teams. These people have the most impact on the success or failure of your operation and by investing in leadership training and soft skill development for your team, you will be amazed at what your team can achieve for you and your shareholders.
We saw this at Kirkland Lake Gold where Chris and his team turned around the Macassa operations and leveraged that success into making two quick acquisitions (St. Andrew Goldfields and Newmarket Gold) which propelled that company from a market capitalization of $250 Million to over $10 Billion in only 6 years and eventually selling to Agnico for $13.5 Billion in 2022.
